WELCOME TO THE VIRTUAL TOUR
MEET THE ARTIST
Sarah Clinton is a painter who was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. Although she was raised with an appreciation for art, her curiosity about the unseen world, and what precipitates a moment, initially drew her to studying physical science, leading to a master’s degree in Chemistry. She wore many hats in her professional life but regardless of location or vocation, Sarah continued to explore and hone her artistic practice by taking classes and learning from artists around her.
When her second child was born with a rare genetic disorder and diagnosed with both autism and intellectual disabilities, Sarah stayed home to manage the complex needs of her family. She increasingly leaned into painting as a means of capturing and processing the emotions of this strange, new–but beautiful–world. Her paintings are dynamic arrangements of paint, fabric, paper, and other narrative fragments. They inspire wonder for ordinary objects and places and invoke the deep connections we have with our environment.
Sarah now resides in Nashville, TN with her husband, son, daughter and Elsie, the family dog.
This body of work, titled “Reflections” is a visual diary of my thoughts, memories and the moments that capture them. Most of this collection was completed during the peak of Covid, while we worked from home, attended virtual school, and struggled to balance it all without the community supports we had come to rely on. In every stroke of paint I transcribed the successes and failures, self-criticism and pride, the anxieties and rare but blissful moments of calm created inside the bubble that is home.
